The Problem

The traditional Government Wide Aquisition Contract (GWAC) management process is slow, overwhelming, and filled with irrelevant data, making it difficult and time consuming for executives to identify valuable contract opportunities.

Government contractors are forced to sift through hundreds of documents manually, wasting time on irrelevant bids instead of focusing on strategic wins. This outdated process leads to missed opportunities and inefficient decision-making, putting firms at a disadvantage in a highly competitive space. Deep Water Point & Associates wanted to build the soltuion for it.

the opportunity?

There was an opportunity to innovate in the space, simplify the process with automation and personalization, ensuring contractors see only the most relevant opportunities while reducing manual effort and decision fatigue.

Defining User Roles

We defined four key user roles early on: two client-facing ('Task Order Portal' and 'Matrix Manager') and two back-end ('Task Order Annotator' and 'Admin Manager'), each with unique functions.

the architecture for each role

We built four portals, one for each role, with two crossovers: Matrix Manager & Task Order Portal, and Admin Manager & Task Order Annotator. Each role had unique functions, requiring distinct system structures.

wireframing, test, & reiterate

Wireframing and feedback were challenging but successful. We adjusted the Task Order Portal dashboard based on testing, adding social features like commenting and tagging to improve workflow.

Key Findings/Moments that impacted the project

A key moment that truly impacted the progression of the project was parting ways with the original offshore development team. This impacted the workflow significantly as all daily standups and communication lines had been cut, with a new team joining weeks later. I used this time to refine the design system and documentation to onboard the team when they were to come.
Understanding the federal taxonomies within procurements and then visualizing the experience of analyzing and annotating the procurements for our internal analysts and external client executives was a great challenge that took lots of feedback and iterations.

Deliverable: GWAC Northstar

I designed GWAC NorthStar® from the ground up, creating a scalable SaaS platform to simplify government contract management. This included a full design system, personalized dashboards, and an AI-driven task order ranking system. The product secured contracts with major firms like Deloitte before launch, proving its impact in the industry.

Deliverable: How it works

GWAC NorthStar® automates contract management by pulling task orders from multiple sources and filtering out irrelevant bids. AI personalizes the experience, surfacing the most valuable opportunities first. The platform's 'Druthers Score' ranks bids based on how well they align with a company's needs and preferences, ensuring executives can make faster, more strategic decisions without sifting through endless documents.
